My story

I have no other wish than a close fusion with Nature and I desire no other fate than to have worked and lived in harmony with her laws.

- Claude Monet

My name is Melanie and Botanical Seasons has evolved from a deep appreciation for nature, flowers, herbs, aromatherapy and the beauty and healing that each of these brings.

I’m a nature-loving, urban flower farmer living on the west coast of New Zealand in beautiful New Plymouth.

The journey has been a long one to reach here, and I've taken many twists and turns to fully embrace cultivating my own flowers, crafting with dried everlastings, and curating an artisan range of botanical products called Chickweed Apothecary.

My love for flowers and plants extends beyond mere admiration; it fuels my creative spirit and inspires me in my work. From flowers grown from seed and harvested from our flower fields to bespoke botanical skincare products, I love bringing nature into people's lives.

My dried flowers are natural and have not been bleached, dyed, or chemically-altered in any way.  I believe untampered flowers and foliage have their own beauty and special depth that is stunning and timeless.

Untampered flowers, seed heads and foliage are a gift from nature which, when ready, can be composted and returned straight back to the earth.  My priority is always to look after nature, the earth, pollinators and wildlife in our gardens.

I embrace organic and permaculture practices and my garden style is natural, with a priority on the pollinators, sustainability and a balanced eco-system as well as providing us beauty and joy.  I love following the moon cycle and the season’s natural ebb and flow whenever I can.

My total growing space may be small (less than half an acre) but it's just perfect for me. Despite its size, I take great pride in managing it efficiently and growing bountiful crops. Being a guardian of the land is an important role and I want to do everything I can to look after the earth, the flowers and plants as well as creating and preserving a healthy and abundant habitat. I leave a small patch in our garden that I’ve given back to nature … I oversee it, but it is mainly left undisturbed to allow it to become an eco-system haven. I believe every small garden can make a difference.

Through Botanical Seasons, I hope to inspire you to look at your own garden, and to bring nature's beauty into your life through my carefully grown flowers and the rituals of self-care with my botanical products.

Thank you for visiting Botanical Seasons and please feel free to get in touch here if you have any queries.

Where the flowers grow

My flower farm is set up as fields at various locations rather than one main farm.

Managing these fields keeps me quite busy, but I feel incredibly grateful for the space they provide to cultivate my flowers and realize my dream.

My main flower fields are located in my own back yard where you won't find a traditional lawn but instead find beautiful flower, herb, and foliage beds.   I pinch myself every time I look out the window!

Additionally, I have flower fields situated at my father's residence. He has generously allowed me to utilise his back area for rows of flowers and foliage. During the spring, summer, and autumn seasons, his property has the dreamy hum from the bees and a beautiful flowery vista right outside his kitchen window.

I also have another flower field on ‘stand-by’ that I can use once my existing beds are more established.  A lovely couple has permitted me to use an area on their lifestyle section just out of New Plymouth.  In time, they will also be enjoying lovely flowery views out of the living room area.  I am very grateful to have this additional space which allows me to expand my growing area if needed once Botanical Seasons becomes more established.

In total, my urban flower fields span just under half an acre, brimming with flowers, herbs, and foliage that I've lovingly nurtured from seed to harvest.  I grow following organic practices and I have patches of safe havens for wild-life and pollinators woven around the growing areas.
